For more than two years, Paladin Press has offered new and existing video titles in the DVD video format, the ideal format for home instruction. These commercially replicated DVDs have been a resounding success, but many customers have asked us to make more of our older high-quality videos available in the DVD format. To meet this demand, Paladin is pleased to announce the availability of many of our most popular existing video titles on DVD-R media, all at the same price as their VHS videotape editions!

DVD-R FAQ

“I know what DVDs are, but what the heck are DVD-Rs?”

DVD-R discs are high-quality digital video recordings just like the DVDs you may have rented from your local video store or previously purchased from Paladin Press. Simply put, DVD-R discs are DVDs that have been recorded one at a time versus being replicated in the thousands like commercial-release DVDs.

“Is there a quality difference between DVD-Rs and
commercially replicated DVDs?”

No. DVD-Rs are the same high-quality digital recordings as commercially replicated DVDs, and they offer the same interactive features that make all the DVD formats perfect for home instruction. Paladin also takes the extra step of adding a special coating to the title side of our DVD-R discs to protect the artwork from scratches and moisture. This coating is one way to tell that you have purchased an authorized copy of the disc.

“If DVD-Rs are just as good as commercially replicated DVDs,
why should I care about the difference?”

Compatibility with your home DVD player. Commercially replicated DVDs are compatible with all DVD players, but DVD-R discs may not be compatible with older players that were manufactured before DVD-R discs and recordings were available. Most current and new DVD players are DVD-R compatible, and DVD-R discs will play in them without a problem. If you are unsure whether your DVD player is DVD-R compatible, just check your owner’s manual. If you cannot find your manual, visit www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php for a comprehensive list of current and older DVD players that are DVD-R compatible.

“How will I know whether I am buying a commercially replicated
DVD or a DVD-R from Paladin?”

Simple. DVD-Rs will be marked DVD-R in the Paladin catalog and on the Paladin Web site.

“What if I purchase a Paladin title on DVD-R disc and it will not
play in my home DVD player?”

You have a couple of options:

  • You can invest in a new DVD player that is DVD-R compatible.
This is the best choice because you can most likely buy a
DVD-R compatible DVD player for less than the cost of a Paladin instructional DVD, and then you will not have any compatibility issues with DVD-R discs in the future.
  • If you do not wish to invest in a new DVD-R compatible DVD
player, we will happily exchange the DVD-R disc for a VHS videotape of the same title.

If you are looking for the best how-to information in state-of-the-art formats, keep looking to Paladin Press. Check our Web site and newest catalogs for the latest listing of Paladin titles available on DVD and DVD-R discs and
VHS videotape.
